Trust and attachment are essential foundations of not only emotional development, but also social and cognitive development. Methods traditionally used in biological and neuroendocrinological research can provide novel insights about the mechanisms behind these processes. This talk will provide an overview of some recent research on the role of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the oxytocin system in human trust and attachment processes, and will discuss implications for social cognitive development.
