Abstract:
I will describe a series of studies demonstrating that even very young infants are active learners, with means of soliciting information and mechanisms of selective engagement and learning. I will present results from studies investigating how infants solicit information from social partners; what effect does seeking and receiving information have on their learning; whether infants actively select what information to encode even before receiving it; and finally some preliminary data on what kind of information infants seek or choose to encode.
